Drinkwater hands in transfer request amid Chelsea interest

  • Chelsea confident of agreeing deal for Antonio Conte's fifth summer signing

With just 36 hours of the transfer window remaining though, the former Manchester United academy graduate has taken matters into his own hands by handing in a transfer request in an attempt to move the deal along.

Leicester are reported to be holding out for a fee in the region of £40 million for Drinkwater, with Chelsea hoping to sign him for £30m. Antonio Conte's side are believed to have had two bids rejected for the sporadic England global, valued at around £40m by Craig Shakespeare's side.

The Express carried a report yesterday that claimed Chelsea manager Antonio Conte had held talks with Mahrez recently about a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea manager Anontio Conte - set to miss out on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, with the Arsenal man trying to seal a Liverpool move - is keen to sign the England worldwide as a replacement for Nemanja Matic, who went to Manchester United in a £40million deal earlier this summer.

"Danny has done really well over the last couple of years", Wilkins said on talkSPORT.

'The important thing again is to play.

"If Danny comes to Chelsea, (Tiemoue) Bakayoko has cost £40million, Kante everybody loves".

"If I was Danny I'd go somewhere where I would play personally".
