Atlanta Braves to provide free tickets to Floridians displaced by Hurricane Irma

09 September, 2017, 12:17 | Author: Sylvester Abbott
  • The Marlins and Nationals played in a nearly empty stadium in Miami with Hurricane Irma looming

Leading up to the game, the Braves invited "all Florida residents, as well as residents of the Georgia and SC counties under evacuation orders who travel to the Atlanta area", free tickets from Thursday through Sunday.

It probably wasn't the best song the Atlanta Braves could have played over the public address system Thursday night during their home game against the Miami Marlins.

The official assured the song would be removed from the playlist for the remainder of the series, according to the Miami Herald.

The Atlanta Braves are now playing the Miami Marlins in a four game series. As such, many residents of Florida and even Georgia and SC are under evacuation orders, and some of them are seeking shelter in Atlanta.

A number of sporting events, including Sunday's Dolphins-Buccaneers game and numerous college football games involving Florida teams, have been postponed, moved and/or canceled as Hurricane Irma nears the United States and bears down on Florida. Many forecasts have South Florida taking a direct hit, and authorities in that area are urging residents to flee the impending danger.

Maybe the Braves aren't so welcoming to Hurricane Irma evacuees after all. "It is still too early to know if we will take a direct hit".
