China imposes limit on oil supply to North Korea

  • North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho

He tweeted: 'Just heard Foreign Minister of North Korea speak at U.N. If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won't be around much longer!' The Pentagon said the mission in worldwide airspace showed how seriously President Donald Trump takes North Korea's "reckless behavior".

The North, which says it needs nuclear weapons to protect itself against the threat of invasion by a hostile U.S., responded on Friday with a rare personal rebuke from Kim, who called Trump "mentally deranged" and a "dotard" and threatened the "highest level of hard-line countermeasure in history". 'We are prepared to use the full range of military capabilities to defend the United States homeland and our allies'.

US President Donald Trump dubbed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un "Rocket Man" in a speech at the UN in which he threatened to "totally destroy" the North if it attacked the US or its allies.

Ri Yong-ho described Mr Trump as a "mentally deranged person full of megalomania" on a "suicide mission".

On Saturday, North Korea issued fiery rhetoric from the podium at the United Nations General Assembly. China, North Korea's economic lifeline, has gradually imposed greater economic sanctions on its neighbor, including caps on oil.

The quake comes amid soaring tensions over Pyongyang's weapons programme, with the firing of two missiles over Japan in recent weeks and its sixth and largest nuclear test earlier this month.

Trump has said he will not allow it, although the U.S. so far has not used military force to impede the North's progress.

Just before Ri spoke at the United Nations, the Pentagon disclosed the Air Force B-1B Lancer bombers flew in global airspace east of North Korea.

B-1 bombers are no longer part of the US nuclear force, but they are capable of dropping large numbers of conventional bombs. The country also has tested more than a dozen missiles this year, some of which have flown over Japan - a strong US ally.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a magnitude 3.5 quake occurred at 6:29 p.m. Saturday, Guam time, near Sungjibaegam, North Korea.

He also said that Trump's depiction of Kim as "Rocket Man" makes "our rocket's visit to the entire USA mainland inevitable all the more".

The rhetoric between Trump and Kim has grown exceptionally personal.

The weekend saw an escalation in the war of words between Washington and Pyongyang, complete with a USA show of military might over the waters near North Korea and jitters over what seismologists say was an quake near a North Korean nuclear test site.

A day earlier, Kim reacted to Trump's provocative speech at the U.N.by equating the USA president to "a frightened dog" and a "mentally deranged US dotard", employing an obscure insult for someone declining into senility.
