  • Katie Quackenbush was arrested for allegedly trying to kill a homeless man on Aug. 26 2017 in Nashville

The victim, Gerald Melton, 54, was critically wounded and remains hospitalized at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. An argument quickly ensued after Melton asked the aspiring country singer to move her vehicle. He claims Melton then walked up to the window of the Porsche and threatened the two women with "explicit and sexist" remarks.

Melton said he walked back to where he was trying to sleep, and that the woman got out of the Porsche with a gun and fired two shots at him. Meanwhile, the man suffered what authorities describe as a "critical abdominal would". The suspect then fled the scene in her Porsche.

"She didn't try and kill this guy", Jesse Quackenbush told the newspaper. "She didn't know she hit him".

Metro police spokesman Don Aaron told the Tennessean that Quackenbush and her friend did not report the incident to the police.

He told the newspaper Mr Melton made explicit remarks and threatened to kill his daughter and her friend while they sat in the auto. Quackenbush then grabbed her gun and got out of her vehicle to escort her friend to her auto.

Jesse went on to claim that his daughter "closed her eyes" while firing "warning shots" and "thought she pointed away" from Melton.

"She has a son", Jesse Quackenbush said, adding that his daughter cooperated with police. The two continued with their argument, then Quackenbush fired two shots at him.

Quackenbush is also a musician, performing under the name Katie Layne. Melton was already arguing with another group of women when they got there, Quackenbush said. They returned to her friend's vehicle to find the area blocked off with crime scene tape. She has not been named and charged.

"She was dealing with somebody that came out of an extremely dark street in the early morning hours who comes out of nowhere and is banging violently on the vehicle window", Strianse said. "If anything he's the one that should've stayed laying down on the ground and stayed away from young women that night", Katie's father and Texas attorney Jesse Quackenbush said on the phone.

Quackenbush is scheduled for a court appearance on October 6.
