  • Manson follower Leslie Van Houten granted parole by CA board

A panel on Wednesday recommended for the second time that Leslie Van Houten, a follower of Charles Manson, be granted parole. That doesn't mean she's out, but it's a big step toward that.

Brown agreed a year ago when he denied Van Houten's parole.

Van Houten was the youngest member of the "Manson Family", that terrorized California in the late 1960's. She has now appeared for 21 parole hearings. But release has been strongly opposed by the families of the victims as well as prosecutors and many others. Jerry Brown now has a 120-day period to affirm, reverse or take no action on the decision.

As RadarOnline.com has learned, the cult - led by pop-star turned murderer Charles Manson - also killed actress Sharon Tate.

None of the convicts of the murder trial have been freed with Van Houten being the first one who was granted parole.

Manson, 82, and other followers involved in the killings are still jailed.

On Wednesday, the panel grilled her for two hours on how she could address the governor's concerns.

"Van Houten was part of a group that stormed into the LaBiancas' home in Los Feliz". Van Houten was 19 when she and fellow cult member Patricia Krenwinkel fatally stabbed Rosemary LaBianca.

Members of both the Tate and La Bianca families have argued against parole for Van Houten, or for any Manson follower.

Gov. Jerry Brown must now once again decide whether to release her from prison after 40 years.

"I feel absolutely frightful about it, and I have spent most of my life trying to find ways to live with it", Van Houten told the panel. "I don't find parts in any of this that makes me feel the slightest bit good about myself". She also mentioned how Manson threatened to have her (Share) tortured and killed if she tried to leave. She said she regretted encouraging her to join the cult.
