North Korea 'may test hydrogen bomb in Pacific'

  • Wednesday letters: Kim Jong Un, ticket scalpers, EPA lab

Pyongyang responded on Tuesday by saying that the U.S. would meet its "final ruin" if it chose to defy the North, and on Thursday, Kim said Trump's United Nations rhetoric was "unprecedented rude nonsense one has never heard from any of his predecessors".

However, Kim's foreign minister, Ri Yong Ho, said North Korea could consider a hydrogen bomb test of an unprecedented scale on the Pacific Ocean, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

"Morning Joe" host Mika Brzezinski ripped President Donald Trump for his tweet Friday calling Kim Jong Un a "madman", saying "you are not a child".

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un responded to Trump's comments Thursday, calling the US commander in chief's behavior "deranged".

"We can not deny the possibility it may fly over our country", Onodera said Thursday.

Some analysts saw a clear sign that North Korea will ramp up its already brisk pace of weapons testing, which has included missiles meant to target US forces throughout Asia and on the USA mainland.

North Korean President Kim Jong Un, in a rare first-person statement, threatened Trump personally after his United Nations speech and called him a "dog" and a "gangster".

"Foreign financial institutions must choose between doing business with the United States or facilitating trade with North Korea or its designated supporters", a statement released by the White House said.

In a sign of increasing isolation from the global community, China on Friday told its banks to stop doing business with North Korea.

In an April 2013 tweet, Trump called Kim a "wack job" and said at some point the USA would have to make "blatant threats" against the leader. "It's written by him, it's signed by him ..."

"The message is chilling", Narang said.

North Korea was scheduled to speak at the UN General Assembly Friday night, but dropped off of its planned roster spot.

Should North Korea make good on its threats to detonate the H-bomb, it would be the first time that the country detonated a nuclear device outside the borders of its country.

In an executive order issued Thursday, the Treasury Department has been granted expanded latitude to target anyone trading with North Korea, barring them from using the USA banking system. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said he spoke yesterday with the head of China's central bank, but "I am not going to comment on confidential discussions".

"We will continue our efforts in the diplomatic arena, but all of our military options - as the president has said - is on the table", Tillerson said in an interview on ABC. He said the order would also allow the U.S. to identify new industries - including textiles, fishing and manufacturing - as potential targets for future actions.
