  • Hizbul Mujahideen commander Abdul Qayoom Najar was killed on Tuesday as Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control

Two civilians were injured in ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu region on Wednesday.

He further said the Pakistani Army had initiated "unprovoked and indiscriminate" firing of small arms, automatic and mortars from 8.15 am onwards in the Poonch and Bhimbher Gali sectors.

Police chief Shesh Paul Vaid said the terrorists had planned an Uri-type attack that had taken place a year ago, resulting in the killing of 19 Indian soldiers and the retaliatory surgical strikes on Pakistani terror camps by India.

More than half a dozen armed intruders targeted an Indian Army post before retaliatory fire forced them to retreat.

In recent days, there have been two BAT (border action team) attacks conducted by Pakistan army regulars in conjunction with terrorists and both were effectively repulsed.

Sources said that the at least seven intruders had come "really close" to the Indian posts and resulted in Indian soldiers fiercely retaliating. The incident has come three days before first anniversary of "surgical strike" carried out by India previous year on September 29against militants in Pakistani Kashmir.

There is need to "change the discourse" around Jammu and Kashmir as there is no such thing as the Kashmir issue, Union Minister Jitendra Singh has said, stressing that the only "point of debate" is retrieving Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). The incident had led to parts of the 740-km long LoC witnessing escalation in tensions.

Meanwhile, the Army, the CRPF and J&K police on Tuesday launched a search operation in Hiranagar area of the IB in Kathua district following reports about the infiltration of militants from across.
