Shortly after the North's recent nuke test, Seoul announced that it reached an agreement with Washington to remove the warhead weight limits on South Korean ballistic missiles, which under a bilateral guideline could be built for a maximum range of 497 miles.

There are two ways of thinking about North Korea.

The aim is to pressure the regime of Kim Jong Un and deprive it of hard currencies needed to develop nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.

North Korea mentioned its EMP attack capabilities on September 4 on the pages of the Workers' Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun, a day after its sixth nuclear test.

In its first official reaction to the sanctions resolution adopted Tuesday by the U.N. Security Council, North Korea's Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that the sanctions would only strengthen the country's resolve to pursue its nuclear weapons program "at a faster pace without the slightest diversion".

Meanwhile on Thursday, a North Korean organisation demanded that the United States be "beaten to death" like a "rabid dog" for spearheading fresh UN sanctions on Pyongyang over its latest nuclear test, adding ally Japan should be "sunken into the sea".

"A U.S bank would not process this transaction between sanctioned parties".

According to Bruce Klingner, a former Central Intelligence Agency analyst who is now senior research fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation, North Korea's trading system consists of 5,000 companies that are centralized in China and run by a limited number of trusted individuals.

Juche, which translates as "self-reliance", is Pyongyang's ruling ideology, a blend of Marxism and hyper-nationalism.

"It makes sense that they would use their existing tunnel network attached to the North Portal entrance, because this leads to where the overburden is the greatest", Hanham said.

"The adoption of sanctions resolution against my country is an extreme manifestation of US intention to eliminate at any cost the ideology, social system of DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) and its people", the ambassador said while addressing other state representatives in Geneva.

This week China reportedly stopped some of its major state-owned banks from providing financial services to new North Korean clients, in what could be a sign of increased sanctions enforcement to prevent any USA retaliation.

He said in an interview on Fox News: "I've worked on an executive order that's ready if the president wants to use it".

The EU is also lining up fresh sanctions of its own in addition to the United Nations measures - these could include a ban on the sale of luxury goods to the north or steps against the regime leadership, even Kim himself.
