  • Air France plane makes emergency landing after engine blows out over the Atlantic

An Air France Airbus A380 was forced to divert to Goose Bay, Canada, earlier today while en route to Los Angeles after suffering a serious engine-failure event.

The plan shook for about 20 minutes but stabilized, and the plane continued flying for another two hours before making the landing, according to the report.

"The regularly trained pilots and cabin crew handled this serious incident perfectly", the statement said.

The landing went off "normally" for the jetliner carrying 496 passengers and 24 crew members, the spokesman said.

A passenger sharing one of the photos said: "I think the engine has seen better days".

One video shows material hanging from the engine as the plane flies on above the ocean.

Air France is facing a daunting technical challenge to fix an extensively damaged A380 at one of Canada's most remote airports.

"We heard this tremendous bang".

The plane landed safely, but part of its engine cowling was missing and it scattered debris across the runway. "It was a whiplash moment".

Air France said it was working on rerouting passengers.

Eamigh said she was content, for the time being, on the tarmac.
