The upcoming third season of Daredevil will have a familiar villain returning to Hell's Kitchen.

Per executive producer and Marvel Television chief Jeph Loeb, "Vincent is an exceptional actor who returns with the incredible gravitas he brings to Fisk". His performance and the portrayal of the crime lord somehow managed to bring sympathy to the character - and left audiences wanting to see more of Wilson Fisk on the small screen. After Fisk had a brief but memorable part in season two, Deadline now confirms that D'Onofrio will return in season three. The famous "Born Again" arc detailed the steady descent of Murdock as he lost everything and began to go insane, all thanks to the Kingpin's machinations. When asked about the hiring, Loeb stated, "We're very excited how Marvel's Daredevil develops through the creative lens and guidance of our new showrunner". And the new: Erik Oleson is joining the superhero series as the new showrunner, replacing season 2's Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez. Erik Oleson will take the job for Season 3 after stints on Arrow and The Man in the High Castle. Wilson is one of the best Marvel TV villains, if not one of the best MCU villains, and offers a formidable foil to the brooding Matt Murdock.

"Born Again" has not yet been confirmed as the basis for season 3, but the addition of Fisk makes it that much more likely. The closing moments from The Defenders hinted that Daredevil season 3 may adapt the acclaimed "Born Again" storyline by Frank Miller, and David Mazzucchelli. Fisk sat the big team-up out, with Sigourney Weaver stepping in as the big bad doing battle against Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. He had recently teased fans about his return over Twitter, changing the page's banner to a behind the back shot of Kingpin, fueling speculation.
