Injured Smith out of T20Is against India

  • Jason Behrendorff is in line to make his debut for Australia in the Twenty20 International series against India and he will be hoping to reverse the team’s poor record against India

Marcus Stoinis will replace Smith in the squad and vice-captain David Warner will stand in as captain in Smith's absence.

After chinaman Kuldeep Yadav (2/16 in 4 overs) yet again bamboozled the visitors alongside Jasprit Bumrah (2/17 in 4 overs) which saw them score 118 for 8 in 18.4 overs, India were left to chase a revised target of 48 in 6 overs via Duckworth-Lewis method.

Ranchi: Skipper Virat Kohli played a sweet cameo after yet another impressive show by the bowling unit as India comfortably beat Australia by nine wickets in a rain- curtailed opening T20 global, here Saturday night.

India thus took a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against Australia. Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, the playing XI squad showcased excellent performances in all matches, except the fourth ODI.

With Australia reeling at 76/3 in 9.5 overs, the Indian bowlers took full advantage of the wicket and conditions and didn't let any Aussie batsman get settled in the middle. The match was being played at Ranchi, which is MS Dhoni's home ground.

The bad news for Australian side is, skipper Steven Smith is ruled out of the first T20 match due to an injury.

The Aussies faced a lot of backlash from all quarters for their subpar performance against India in the recently concluded ODI series against India where they managed to win only one game.

Aaron Finch was the highest scorer for Australia, he scored 42 runs.

All of Indian five bowlers picked wickets in the innings.

Yadav (2-16 off four overs) had his second victim when Moises Henriques (eight) advanced down the wicket to a leg break which kept low, clean bowling him.

His return from a shoulder injury has not been up to the mark as he did not get a chance in the ODI series but Rahul has been retained for the T20I series and he would look to make it count. The decision to persist with wrist spinners like Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal has proved to be beneficial for the team since the start of the Sri Lanka series.
