  • ISIL kills at least 58 Syria government fighters

The 955 civilians killed in September included 207 children, said the Observatory, which relies on a wide network of sources inside Syria for its information.

A US-led worldwide coalition has been providing air support to a Kurdish-Arab alliance, the Syrian Democratic Forces, also fighting the jihadists in its former northern bastion of Raqa city and Deir Ezzor. Displaced Syrians are pictured carrying water containers near Ain Issa camp.

September has been the deadliest month so far in the Syrian conflict, a monitoring group has said. According to the UK-based war monitor, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the first attacks were carried out against checkpoints manned by loyalist troops in Al-Shula, a village near Deir Ezzor and then moved on to checkpoints along the length of the motorway from Al-Shula to south of Sukhna.

The group said that "395 including 92 children and 71 citizen women were killed in raids by Syrian and Russian warplanes and by regime's helicopters on several areas of Syria" and "282 including 68 children and 45 citizen women were killed in airstrikes by the warplanes of the worldwide coalition".

In September 2017 in Syria as a result of armed conflict has killed at least three thousand people, of which one third was a civilian.

It said 738 members - from Daesh and a group led by Al-Qaeda's former Syria affiliate - also died. A Saudi daily at the time reported that Assad was getting so concerned about the safety of himself and his family that he decided that being surrounded by Russian military personnel on a Russian warship off the coast of Latakia province was a better place to live than in the presidential palace.

Al Qaryatain was home to some 30,000 people before Syria's war broke out in 2011, 900 of them Christians.

Syria is embroiled in a six-year civil war that has killed more than 330,000 people and forced an estimated 5 million more to flee across borders to become refugees.
