But even more so, the original didn't exactly end with a concrete point to spawn a sequel or series.

Most fans of Ridley Scott's 1982 classic, "Blade Runner", will approach the sequel, "Blade Runner 2049", with a mix of high hopes and dread. Directed by Denis Villeneuve ("Arrival") from a script by original co-writer Hampton Fancher (with Michael Green), "Blade Runner 2049" is determined to create its own world out of the seeds that Scott (a producer here) left behind.

Watch the documentary in full below and read Fact's in-depth cover feature here. "But let's say that for me to do a Bond movie would be a deep, deep pleasure". Its slick surfaces and the atmospheric synthesizer score by Vangelis, not to mention Daryl Hannah's hair and some serious shoulder pads, made "Blade Runner" an electric portrait of 1980s soullessness. Blade Runner 2049 hinges nearly entirely on the latter, casting Gosling as an unflappable loner whose interactions with others can be put into two categories: killing someone or being ordered to kill someone. Less impressive is Niander Wallace, the new villain played by Jared Leto, who appears exclusively to give big, scenery-chewing bad guy speeches (though his right-hand woman, played by relative newcomer Sylvia Hoeks, makes a stronger impression). Gosling delivers one of his best performances, complimented by excellent work from Robin Wright as his commanding officer, Ana de Armas as his AI hologram hentai "girlfriend", and Sylvia Hoeks as an impressively diligent PA. Reprising his role as Rick Deckard, Harrison Ford doesn't turn up until the third act, but he's a welcome presence, even if it sometimes feels like he's dialling it in.

Blade Runner has always been a nakedly political story.

Rachel is a replicant who is very advanced and completely unaware that she isn't human.

The politics of the sequel are both more obvious and less interesting, and the political parallels feel a little half-baked. A 75 year old man has every right to a bit old, but surely a 75 year old movie star would have someone take care of him to make sure he doesn't look his age in pre-publicity shots, unless he'd upset everyone involved. It's not much, but it's there if you're looking for it.

However, the real star of "Blade Runner 2049", just as in the original, are the impeccable and downright gorgeous visuals, this time through the masterful eye of legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins.

"Bleak, dystopian, an absolute nightmare to be honest-that's just my interviewing techniques", she quips, which makes Ford throw his head back in laughter.

Set 30 years after the action of the first film, "2049" focuses, like Scott's tale, on a blade runner: a cop whose mission it is to track down and "retire" bioengineered humanoid "replicants" that were once used as slave labor - "skinners", or "skin jobs", in the parlance of the film - and who have since gone on the lam after being found to disobey orders.
