The movie is set for a July 2019 release and Favreau has already been in pre-production with Jeff Nathanson writing the script.

"Simba idolises his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny". Scar, Mufasa's brother-and former heir to the throne-has plans of his own.

Now, after a lot of speculation that she was going to make an appearance in the picture (or at least help produce the soundtrack), it was confirmed that Beyoncé was going to portray Nala. JD McCrary will play the Young Simba and Shahadi Wright Joseph will play the Young Nala.

Walt Disney Studios took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce the lineup for its highly anticipated 2019 reboot of The Lion King. Other incredible cast members include Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, John Oliver as Zazu, Seth Rogan as Pumba, and Billy Eichner as Timon.

How is the Lion King being remade?

Donald Glover will play her love interest, Simba, in the live action remake.

With no human characters in the film, it isn't yet clear how, if it all, Disney will create a "live-action" update.

The film is slated for release on June 19, 2019, and is being directed by Jon Favreau, who helmed The Jungle Book's live-action remake past year.
