But the former Iowa talk radio host and political science professor contended in the letter to the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee's top Democrat, Debbie Stabenow (Mich.), that his time teaching and running for political office in the Hawkeye State steeped him in the field of agriculture.

Clovis has also argued in favor of "religious freedom" measures that would allow businesses to refuse to hire LGBTQ people by citing religious or moral objections to homosexuality or transgenderism.
In March 2016, Trump called Papadopoulos an "excellent guy" during an interview with The Washington Post's editorial board. At least two Democratic members of the Senate judiciary committee, Al Franken of Minnesota and Patrick Leahy of Vermont, have asked the FBI to investigate whether Sessions committed perjury during his confirmation hearings.
