At least five jawans were injured after militants attacked a CRPF vehicle in Jammu-Kashmir's Anantnag district, PTI reported on Thursday.

Two of the injured have bullet wounds. The terrorists opened fire on the convoy and 3 jawans were hit by bullets while two others were injured by broken glass panes of the vehicle.

As per police reports, the convoy of six buses belonged to the Mattan-based 96 Bn of the CRPF. The official said the paramilitary troopers retaliated the fire and the attackers fled the spot.

A CRPF spokesperson said that the injured were stable.

The firing created panic in the area as people ran for their lives. The forces are now carrying out an investigation in the area, to detail the culprits or anyone who could be in connection to the terrorists.

The cordon remained intact for a couple of hours before the forces were withdrawn.

While speaking to a news agency, GNS, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant organization claimed responsibility of the attack.
