  • Gigi Hadid Has Pulled Out Of This Year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

The 22-year-old model announced the news on Twitter.

Gigi announced that she would be walking in her third VS Fashion Show back in August, sharing a throwback video from a previous fitting. Irina Sharipova, Kate Grigorieva, Julia Belyakova, and Dasha Khlystun have reportedly been denied Chinese visas, and thus unable to walk in the show when it tapes on Monday, Nov. 21.

The reasons behind the move are mostly commercial: China is a massive market for the brand, and Victoria's Secret is hoping to appeal to Chinese consumers as they expand in the nation's "fast-growing market". The model just confirmed this afternoon, however, that she would officially not be heading to China to walk alongside her winged sisters this season.

The show is set to air on CBS on November 28, and Harry Styles and Taylor Swift - the two are exes and close friends to several Victoria's Secret Angels - are rumored to be performers. "If she had come, I would never buy VS my entire life", said one posting. Bella captioned on Instagram Wednesday.

Chinese internet users lashed out at Hadid after her sister Bella - another of the three dozen or more models expected in Shanghai - posted an Instagram video in February showing Gigi squinting her eyes while holding up a Buddha-shaped cookie.

She posted a bilingual apology on China's Twitter-like Weibo on September 1, declaring her "respect and love for the people of China" and swearing she meant no harm, but even that was pilloried.

But backstage snaps show the Victoria's Secret Angels glamour-free as they get ready for the runway show, sitting in their pink robes before their hair and makeup has been done.

It's also been reported that some of the models who booked the show will no longer be participating as they've also been denied work visas.
