Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama is slated for a December 1 release. "We are writing to the ECI, CBFC and the Centre, seeking to stop the film's release for a temporary period till the issue is resolved", Jadeja wrote to a national daily.

This while, Maharashtra Tourism minister Jaykumar Rawal demanded a ban on the film as the movie could hurt the sentiments of the Rajput community and cause unrest in the state. They have also asked for a pre-release of the film or they would burn the cinema houses and multiplexes!

The letter to the poll body reads, "At a time when the election code of conduct is in place, we request your kind intervention to arrange a pre-release screening/viewing of the film for selected Rajput representatives".

Jadeja said that BJP leaders from the community including himself, education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, minister of state for home Pradipsinh Jadeja, Kiritsinh Rana, Bharatsinh Parmar, Jaydrathsinh Parmar, Balvantsinh Rajput among others met and jointly decided to make representation before the union government, ECI and film censor board that the film which purportedly wrongly links Padmavati to Allauddin Khilji by twisting historical facts should not be allowed to release.

He alleged that director and producer of the film Leela Bhansali was creating unnecessary controversy for the sake of publicity. The movie circles around the ceremonial character of queen Padmavati (starring Deepika), from Rajasthan, and her husband who is Mahawrawal Ratan Singh (Shahid), and he battled the Mughal invader Sulatn Alauddin Khilji (Ranvir).

Meanwhile, the Congress said the ruling party was doing politics and trying to turn the film into a poll issue.

Senior Congress leader and also a chief ministerial hopeful, Shaktisinh Gohil echoed views that were strikingly similar to his political rival though he did seek to put the BJP in a spot too.

In January, activists of a Rajput organisation, Shi Rajput Karni Sena had protested, manhandled and misbehaved with the crew of "Padmavati" claiming that Bhansali was distorting historical facts in the movie.
