Jameis Winston push leads to brief skirmish on Bucs sideline

  • Buccaneers' Jameis Winston out with shoulder injury

Clearly, Evans has his quarterback's back, but his wallet may be a little lighter next week, as he'll nearly certainly draw a fine for his actions on the above play. As the play ended, Jameis Winston, who was on the sideline because he left the game with a right shoulder injury, then poked Lattimore on the back of his helmet. When the Saints cornerback turned around to confront Winston, Evans came sprinting in to lay a brutal blindside hit on Lattimore. Evans was not ejected but was assessed a 15-yard personal foul and now could face a fine if not a suspension for his actions. It's very childish. I shouldn't have (done) that.

Evans was penalized for unnecessary roughness but was not kicked out of the game. When asked for his thoughts on Evans' retaliation, he said, "Well, Marshon Lattimore pushed his quarterback".

In his postgame news conference, Saints coach Sean Payton was adamant that Evans should have been ejected as a result of the hit.

Before leaving the game, Winston struggled mightily, completing 7 of 13 passes for 67 yards, no touchdowns, no picks, and a 68.4 passer rating. "That's definitely not the way we want to represent ourselves if it was in fact the way I was told".
