Predecessor Slaven Bilic managed a near-35 per cent win rate in Premier League games with the Hammers - making him statistically their most successful manager in the competition - and it rose to 37.8 per cent across all competitions during his almost two and a half years in charge.

West Ham have appointed former Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes as their new manager, the struggling Premier League club announced on Tuesday. "I have probably got one of the best win records in the Premier League".

He had brief spells at Real Sociedad and Sunderland and media reports said he was West Ham's first choice to replace Bilic.

West Ham have had a dire start to the new season and a change was certainly needed for the club to start heading in the right direction.

Moyes has been out of management since he resigned from his post Sunderland at the end of last season, having failed to prevent the northeast club being relegated from the Premier League. "I've got no doubts about that, but ultimately we have to show it on the pitch", he added.

"At the moment they should be in a better position than they are, and I believe they will be come the end of the season".

"We need somebody with experience, knowledge of the Premier League and the players in it, and we believe David is the right man to turn things around", joint-chairman David Sullivan told West Ham's official website.

In his unveiling video on West Ham's Twitter account, Moyes attempted to rally the fans, saying: "I'm really looking forward to meeting the supporters, being in the stadium with them".

Eleven years at Everton made him the club's longest-serving manager since Harry Catterick in the 1960s and '70s and brought four European campaigns and an FA Cup final. "I hope it gives me great strength and understanding of what is required".
