Police Have Several Leads After Fourth Person Killed In Unsolved Tampa Shootings

  • SEE IT: Tampa police release new footage of suspect in Seminole Heights killings

Not long before that, security cameras in the neighborhood captured the suspect walking alone, in video that looks very similar to surveillance footage of a man walking through the same neighborhood October 9, right before 22-year-old college student Benjamin Mitchel was shot and killed.

"Our sense is that there are people who are very anxious in our community, particularly those who might be sleeping on the streets, so we expanded our capacity in our shelter last night", said Captain Andy Miller, Area Commander for the Salvation Army of Tampa. When officers arrived, they found the body of Ronald Felton, 60, in the street. "Let's hope this motivates someone with the strength and fortitude to step forward and tell us who is doing this".

"We believe this is the same person we saw walking just moments earlier", Dugan said during a news conference last month, adding that the person of interest likely has ties to the neighborhood.

Police have said there is no apparent link between the victims other than that each was out walking alone in the dark in the Seminole Heights neighborhood.

"It's very unfortunate here that we've had another one", Police Chief Brian Dugan said. "Everyone can do something, whether you donate your time, your money, or you go out and you're just a little nicer that day", said Baggett. He says the suspect does meet the criteria for being a serial killer.

"We need to catch this killer before we need to notify one more family that one of their loved ones is dead", Buckhorn said.

Two days later, Monica Hoffa (left) was also shot after getting off a bus.

The first murder occurred on October 9, 2017.

Then on October 13, 2017, Monica Hoffa, 32, was found dead by a city of Tampa worker from what was described as upper body trauma. They have released surveillance videos of a hooded suspect after the earlier shootings. Benjamin Mitchell, Monica Hoffa, and Anthony Naiboa were all killed within a few blocks of one another, just days apart. It showed the suspect repeatedly flipping and staring at a cellphone before Mitchell's death. Investigators consider Felton to be a fourth victim in the series of murders. Police said she was also shot.

The chief is hesitant to call this the case of a serial killer, saying his detectives are still not 100 percent confident all four killings are connected. Her friends would often stop by and hang out on her porch to talk, but "now they're like, 'I'm not coming to see you'".
