  • US Senator Rand Paul's ribs broken in assault at home

The attorney for the man accused of assaulting Sen. On Sunday, Paul's office announced he was recovering from five rib fractures, including three displaced fractures, meaning the bones are partly or completely cracked.

"The unfortunate occurrence of November 3 has absolutely nothing to do with either's politics or political agendas", a statement by attorney Matthew Baker said.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., was reportedly attacked while he mowed the grass at his home in Bowling Green.

Boucher, who was released on Saturday with a $7,500 bond, was charged with fourth-degree assault. Rand Paul on Friday may soon face more serious criminal charges because the Kentucky Republican is suffering from several rib injuries, law enforcement officials said Monday.

The motivate for the assault is not yet known.

Paul's staff is unsure of when the senator will return to Washington. "This type of injury is caused by high velocity severe force. Senator Paul does have lung contusions now", Stafford said.

Boucher, 59, is also a practicing anesthesiologist and an inventor who created a device called the "Therm-a-Vest" to alleviate back pain, according to a 2005 article in the Bowling Green Daily News.

"Two Kentuckians tell me Rand's neighborhood fracas stemmed from a dispute over some sort of planting or flora issue around the properties", Martin tweeted.

An arrest warrant obtained by Courier Journal stated that Boucher allegedly "tackled him from behind".

The release did not provide details of the assault or the nature of Paul's injury.

Rene Boucher's mugshot from the Warren County (Kentucky) jail. Kentucky State Police say Paul had minor injuries. He sold his invention on QVC, the home shopping channel.

The Kentucky State Police told Fox News they are still running an active and open investigation and just learned of Paul's condition.

Voter records from March 2017 show Boucher registered as a Democrat.

The FBI is assisting state and local authorities to see whether there were any violations of federal law, but an FBI spokesman declined to comment Monday on a possible motive.
