  • Rapper Meek Mill Sentenced To Prison For Probation Violations

Meek Mill plans to appeal a judges "heavy-handed" sentencing of up to four years in state prison for parole violation.

In August the rapper was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment in New York City after being caught popping wheelies and riding dangerously down a street on his motorcycle-all without wearing a helmet. Interestingly, both charges against him were dropped, but the judge says that by simply being arrested in the first place, he was violating his probation.

The rapper was previously in jail for eight months and on probation for five years following a conviction for gun and drug charges in 2008.

Meek also addressed his 2015 legal woes, when he was facing jail time for violating probation for traveling without permission and submitting a dirty urine sample.

In the hours since, many people have spoken up about the stiffness of the sentence, including Jay-Z, who issued a rare social media statement on Facebook decrying the "unjust and heavy handed" ruling. He vowed to "always stand by and support Meek Mill, both as he attempts to right this wrongful sentence and then in returning to his musical career".

In March, he was arrested at a St. Louis airport for fighting.

As she delivered her sentence she told the rapper, 'I'll be done with you'.

"I've been trying to help you since 2009", Brinkley reportedly said, adding, "You basically thumbed your nose at me".

The judge was unaffected by his plea and ordered him to be taken into custody. Many have implied that a racist justice system is to blame, but the rapper's lawyers believe there could be something more personal at work.

The sentence drew outrage from several fellow African American celebrities, who said the prison time was disproportionate. I don't even have the words now y'all.

Comedian Kevin Hart also offered his support for Mill in an Instagram post.

"Saddened, angered, and disappointed", tweeted Hot 97 DJ Peter Rosenberg.
