San Diego Massage Envy Sexual Assault Victim Speaks Out

More than 180 female customers of Massage Envy have accused male massage therapists of groping and penetrating them while on the massage table, BuzzFeed reported, citing lawsuits, police reports and other complaints.
In 2014, two other women said they too were sexually assaulted by different therapists at the same location.
A woman claims David Wilson, of Greenville, acted inappropriately toward her in 2009, according to the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.
Massage Envy, the nation's largest massage spa chain is facing allegations it ignored reports of sexual assault.
In September, a massage therapist at a Massage Envy in Washington, D.C., was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual abuse after a client reported an alleged sexual assault.
According to the report, the spa had decided that the women's allegations "weren't credible" because they were made over the phone - all three women declined to return to the scene of the alleged crimes to "discuss the events in person".
"She said in a very apparently scripted response, 'We invite you in to talk about your services.' And I said no, no, no you don't understand, '" said Ingram.
Massage Envy said they can't share their specific policy documents, but any reported would be investigated, and if the allegation is true, the therapist could be terminated. After driving home sobbing, she called the spa to report the sexual assault.
Eventually, Ingram did call the police.
"Even one incident is too many", the statement said. In Florida, a woman said she tried to push away her massage therapist as he licked her vagina.
One Sacramento County woman is accusing the owners and a therapist at the Massage Envy franchise on Elk Grove-Florin Road in Elk Grove.
Massage Envy does not require any of its locations to take steps to prevent or investigate sexual assault (except in a few states where local laws require it by law).
She said she agreed to share her story in hopes of empowering other women to immediately report any incident of sexual assault or unwanted touching. "You don't want cop cars showing up at your location the next day", she told BuzzFeed.
Until this year, the state board only had the authority to regulate individuals, not businesses.
"We are constantly listening, learning and looking at how we can do more, including how we support franchised locations with best practices in handling these incidents and supporting their clients".
