"The magnitude of suffering in Yemen requires all parties to this conflict to focus on assistance to those in need".

The blockade of Yemeni ports and airports has been the reason for United Nations authorities' concern over the humanitarian situation in the country. The action came after Saudi Arabia intercepted a missile fired towards Riyadh.

Col. Al Maliki also renewed the call for the implementation of the United Nations plan to take control of the Port of Hudaydah- according to the UN's proposal, which was accepted by the Coalition and rejected by the Iranian-backed Houthi Militia.

"We're monitoring these developments", Haq told reporters in NY. "We made clear the tremendous amount of needs on the ground".

He also says: "We're ready to help if the ports are opened".

The coalition announced the closure of Yemen's air, land and sea borders on November 6, two days after a ballistic missile fired from the rebel-held territory in Yemen was intercepted over the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

Jamie McGoldrick spoke to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The coalition has given clearance for U.N. flights in and out of Sanaa from Amman on Saturday, involving the regular rotation of aid workers, said Jens Laerke, spokesman of the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The coalition imposed a blockade November 6, after rebels fired a missile at the Saudi capital.

About 7 million people in Yemen, out of a population of 27 million, depend entirely on food aid, and 4 million rely on aid groups for clean water. "If that were to happen that would be a very welcome and critically important development".

The Saudi Arabia-led coalition fighting Houthi rebels in Yemen said Wednesday that it would reopen the country's main global airport and a vital Red Sea port to humanitarian traffic. The missile was shot down, but it was the farthest a projectile fired by Yemen's Shiite rebels, also known as the Houthis, had travelled into the kingdom.

Saudi Arabia said the move was meant to stop the flow of arms to the Houthis from Iran, although Iran has denied supplying weapons to the rebel forces.

"Sanctions and inspections should not be used as weapons of war", the group said in a statement.

The coalition announced that it's lifting the blockade after initially tightening it following a Houthi missile attack.

The IRC condemned the worldwide community, saying its silence "is a disgrace and is enabling what could be collective punishment".
