It has also announced most popular apps, music, movies and more ...

Apple on Thursday published its annual Best of 2017 list, highlighting the year's top apps, games, movies, TV shows, podcasts, books and more as determined by Apple employees.

In addition to the curated lists from its editors, Apple also shared the lists of the most downloaded apps and content of the year.

The Witness is a puzzle game available at $9.99 for both the iPad and iPhone. Over on the iPad, photo editing suite Affinity Photo was picked as the app of the year and 3D puzzler The Witness came out on top in the game of the year category. In non-fiction, "Hillbilly Elegy" topped the charts.

While Snapchat was the most downloaded app of 2016, it slipped to the number two position this year, with Snap-owned Bitmoji taking top honors.

Meanwhile, Super Mario Run was the top free iPhone game of 2017, followed by 8 Ball Pool, Snake VS Block, Ballz, Word Cookies!, Subway Surfers, Episode ft.

If you want to see the full lists, just load up iTunes or the App Store and you'll see it all on the front page.

For Apple Music, the most popular album was Drake's More Life and Ed Sheeran snagged the most popular song with Shape of You.

Taylor Swift's album "reputation" has already shot up to number three on the 2017 United States top album charts, despite having only been available for a short period of time. The most watched movie on iTunes in 2017 was Moana, followed closely by Rogue One and Wonder Woman. Game of Thrones unsurprisingly dominated in the TV realm, with NPR's Fresh Air topping podcast charts.

Finally, iTunes U saw a bumper year, with computer science courses being amongst the most popular, with the top three apps focusing on learning to code and developing apps - certainly a handy thing for iTunes to teach users.
