Arsenal wasted Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's 'unbelievable' goalscoring potential, says Jurgen Klopp

  • Arsenal team news: Wenger facing midfield worries ahead of Liverpool clash, star striker ruled out

"Everything we are doing has influence on our plans".

"We have to be really, really strong defensively in that game, Otherwise we don't have a chance", Klopp told a news conference on Wednesday.

He said: "Against us most of the time Giroud played from the beginning so that shows the style Arsenal choose against us".

That is a very courageous thing to say as it is clear that our strikers have lost their scoring boots at the moment, but I guess our luck in front of goal must change at some point.

"I'm fine for the moment but I see space for improvement as well, that's good".

The England global will desperately want to be involved against his former club Arsenal, live on Sky Sports Premier League on Friday night, and Klopp is expecting a hard test for his fourth-placed Reds.

At Arsenal, Oxlade-Chamberlain regularly struggled with fitness issues, and with Klopp claiming the Reds were "lucky" this hadn't been a problem so far, there are still reservations.

However, Klopp took issue with those suggesting Liverpool need reinforcements, saying: "I don't think the solution is always a new player".

"Luck is always involved in this, we aren't responsible for all the injuries, you can not avoid that", he added. It's not like we said "from now on we do it differently". I don't say better, but different.

"The three points is the most important thing and the boys up front are scoring so we know we [just] have to keep clean sheets to make it easier for us to win games".

"He's just on a good way, a good lad, [I am] really happy to have him around".

But while Salah hit the ground running, Oxlade-Chamberlain took longer to adjust, and Klopp explained why this was the case.

Amid all the rotation, Mohamed Salah has been a mainstay under Klopp and with 20 goals this season he is undeniably irreplaceable.

"If Alex was here in pre-season that would be completely different".

"We go there to perform and get as much as we can".
