Former San Francisco 49er's quarterback Colin Kaepernick is on the short list to receive Time's Person of the Year award, the magazine confirmed Monday.

TIME's first selection was Charles Lindbergh, the first person to make a solo non-stop flight across the Atlantic.

Colin Kaepernick, 30, started the national protest against racism and police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem during NFL games.

Un, the leader of North Korea, has been threatening the United States while nuclear war, launching test intercontinental ballistic missiles in recent months, that if successful, could hit the U.S. He has also been trading harsh words and insults with President Trump. The protest continued to grow, with hundreds of National Football League players kneeling during the 2017 season. Trump has also proposed ending DACA, a programme that gives legal status to "Dreamers", undocumented immigrants that have been in the USA since they were children.

Kapernick is now not signed with a team, and recently filed a grievance against NFL owners, who he said blackballed him within the league. This movement prompted millions of women to speak out about sexual assault and sexual harassment that they had experienced.

It would be quite an achievement for Trump to score the honor in two consecutive years. He has since brought charges against four people in his on-going investigation of potential involvement of the Trump campaign in Russia's efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election. Other players followed, and President Trump supercharged the controversy.

He added: "I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!"
