Democrat intends to force impeachment vote against Donald Trump

  • House Democrats Are Going to Try to Impeach President Trump Again

In response, Democratic leaders resisted Green's call to action, insisting that more urgent matters warranted attention, namely the tax bill and the Russian Federation investigation.

But the process of impeaching an American president and removing him from office is complex and challenging.

Democratic leaders have urged Green to drop the idea, CNN said.

A Democrat congressman has vowed to force a vote to impeach President Donald Trump on Wednesday, a move party leaders have long sought to block despite mounting frustration from a small group of liberal lawmakers. Green would need a simple majority of members to support it and no Republican has suggested that Congress should remove Trump from office. Politically, the vote puts rank-and-file Democrats in a tough position - between a desire to allow the investigations to run their course, the possible discomfort of moderate voters, and the demands of the anti-Trump left wing.

Green has discussed impeaching Trump since the spring and previously filed impeachment articles in October, almost forcing a vote at that time before House Democratic leaders persuaded him to temporarily abandon the effort. Republicans are expected to offer a motion to table the resolution later Wednesday, effectively killing Green's resolution. Instead, he argues that Trump has "brought disrepute, contempt, ridicule and disgrace on the presidency" and "sown discord among the people of the United States".

"Now is not the time to consider articles of impeachment", they wrote in a statement.

Green first introduced impeachment proceedings in October, but forced the vote yesterday.

They say legitimate questions have been raised about Trump's fitness to lead the nation, but say congressional investigations and a special counsel investigation should be allowed to continue.

Democratic Rep. Dan Kildee of MI says Democratic lawmakers can't let themselves be drawn into a process "that's not thoughtful or complete or might not even be the conclusion we ought to draw".

Pelosi and Hoyer released a joint statement ahead of a floor vote on articles of impeachment sponsored by Rep. Al Green.
