The account reappeared without loss in number of tweets posted but having lost a considerable number of followers.

On Monday, the U.S. Navy official Twitter account briefly tweeted WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's name.

One wrote: "It appears Julian Assange's wasn't suspended by Twitter but was hacked and deleted".

The official account of the US Navy posted a tweet that just said "Julian Assange" late on Christmas night.

A statement from WikiLeaks pointed out some "oddities" from the social media platform and the US Navy, but noted that apart from increased surveillance at the Ecuadorian embassy, the 46-year-old Australian was fine. "Despite some oddities from the US Navy and Twitter today and increased physical surveillance @JulianAssange's physical situation at the embassy remains unaltered-confined without charge in violation of two United Nations rulings requiring the UK to set him free", the statement read.

Assange's account then went up again, and the first thing to come out of it was a cartoon of Santa Claus looking at the Wikileaks page while making a list of Good and Bad.

Assange, who has been holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London since 2012 to avoid extradition to avoid a rape accusation from Swedish prosecutors, has long used the social media site to communicate WikiLeaks plans.

The account does not appear to have been suspended by Twitter, and the most recent cached version of his account suggests he had not tweeted since Friday.

Those with secrets want him alive, if he dies the real dirt is released. The WikiLeaks Twitter account was untouched entirely, and never disappeared.
