  • California Man Arrested For Alleged Plot To Attack San Francisco Pier On Christmas

The suspect, Everitt Aaron Jameson, 26, is accused of providing "material support or resources to a foreign terrorist organization" between October 24 and December 20, and expressing his willingness to "do anything for 'the cause, '" according to an affidavit filed by FBI Special Agent Christopher McKinney. Prosecutors say Jameson planned to detonate an explosive on the city's Pier 39 on Christmas because he knew it would be heavily crowded. He also told the Federal Bureau of Investigation agent that Monday, Christmas Day, would be a "perfect day" for an attack.

According to an affidavit written by FBI Special Agent Christopher McKinney, Jameson espoused "radical jihadi beliefs", including social media posts that support terrorism and he offered to give people who shared his beliefs rides in his company tow truck.

The FBI said Jameson was inspired by the terrorist attack by a truck driver in New York City, and by the San Bernardino fatal shootings in 2015. Mr. Trump recently announced the USA will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Officials say Everitt Aaron Jameson ultimately said he didn't want to go through with it, after an Federal Bureau of Investigation employee accidentally called his phone with an identifiable Washington D.C. -based phone number.

In 2009, Jameson attended basic recruit training and obtained a sharpshooter rifle qualification before being discharged for fraudulent enlistment, according to the complaint.

The next day, Jameson filled out a "Franchise Tow Truck Driver Application" with the police department in Modesto, California.

The undercover agent told him to hold off until he got approval from superiors.

He discussed how he would execute the attack, noting that he would be happy if an attack was carried out.

Jameson told the informant that he was a soldier in the "Kuffar army" before he reverted and that he was trained in combat and things of war. He also told the undercover agent he needed timers and remote detonators, the documents state.

Authorities ultimately searched his Modesto home on Wednesday.

"Jameson explained that he also desired to use explosives and described a plan in which explosives could "tunnel" or "funnel" people into a location where Jameson could inflict casualties", McKinney stated.

The agent said Jameson wanted to do a combination of the two attacks, referring to the use of firearms and vehicles.

Dar al Islam means the "house of Islam".

She added, "We will not allow the thwarted attempts of one unsafe individual to disrupt our way of life".

Attorney General Jeff Sessions applauded law enforcement officials in a statement Friday.
