  • MSNBC's Chris Matthews Reprimanded for Improper Comments About Woman in 1999

A former producer for MSNBC was reportedly paid off after she accused Hardball with Chris Matthews host Chris Matthews of sexual harassment in 1999, according to a report from The Daily Caller. The network confirmed to the Daily Caller that while they paid the woman, the money was given as part of a severance package and the amount paid was "significantly less" than $40,000.

The woman complained to CNBC executives about Matthews making inappropriate comments and jokes about her while in the company of others.

The woman worked as an assistant producer on "Hardball with Chris Matthews", which at the time was on CNBC, according to the Daily Caller, which first reported the allegation.

Matthews was formally reprimanded, but an NBC spokesperson told Politico that though Matthews' comments were deemed inappropriate, they were not sexual propositions.

MSNBC refused to divulge whether the victim's severance compensation was related the incident or whether this was the only claim lodged against Matthews. Since leaving MSNBC, she has gone on to work in a number of high-profile media positions. "At that time Matthews received a formal reprimand", an MSNBC spokesperson told NBC News of the allegations.

MSNBC host and political analyst Chris Matthews is the latest in a string of high-profile men in media to be accused of sexual misconduct, particularly at NBC.

Matthews didn't respond to a request for comment from Fox News.

Halperin, a former NBC commentator and author, was sacked in October after numerous women and fellow employees came forth with sexual assault allegations of groping and other unwanted physical contact.

Additional women accused Lauer of sexual harassment and assault, and some insisted that executives at the network knew about his behavior. Variety exclusively reported the accusations of inappropriate behavior from several women against Matt Lauer.
