In their first nine months of existence, Nintendo sold 3.61 million Wii U consoles and 9.27 million Wii consoles. The impressive part about hitting the milestone is that the console has only been available for nine months.

The announcement comes less than two months after Nintendo increased its fiscal-year projection, ending March 31, 2018, from 10 million to 14 million units sold.

On the backs of a clever piece of hardware and some of the most inspired titles in the Nintendo lineage, the company is riding high on their success.

We'll be sure to bring more on the Switch's sales as Nintendo divulges more information.

The report claims that USA sales have not yet been disclosed by the company, but it is claimed that at least more than 2.6 million units were sold in the US.

Nintendo HQ Visit

Starbreeze Studios have unveiled the release date for Payday 2 on the Nintendo Switch. Other games such as "Super Mario Odyssey" and "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" have been widely praised, and titles such as "Bayonetta" and "Bayonetta 2" - which debuted on the Wii U - will come to the console next year. Today's announcement from Nintendo marks the 10 million sold just 284 days after launch.

If there's one thing we can point to that's likely responsible for the unmitigated success of the Switch, it's the software lineup.

If you want to play it at home, you simply drop the console into the dock that's already connected to your TV. However, you can also take the Switch with you thanks to its own integrated screen and use it as a portable.

Unofficial estimates though put it at around 32 million worldwide after four years, which means it's now being outpaced in sales by both the PlayStation 4 and Switch.
