Ole Miss Gets Hit By NCAA

  • Ole Miss Basketball: Rebels Drop Overtime Game 99-97 To Jackrabbits

Freeze, who was sacked in July for issues not related to the NCAA investigation, has received a show-cause penalty, though the length is unknown.

Now that the NCAA has tacked on another year of postseason punishment, players with eligibility covered by the ban (rising Rebel seniors) can transfer to another school without having to sit out for a year.

Former Ole Miss head football coach Hugh Freeze must serve a two-conference-game suspension for the 2018 season should any NCAA school hire him between December 1, 2017, and November 30, 2018.

Three years of probation from December 1, 2017, to November 30, 2020. The NCAA says a school has 15 days to notify the appeals committee of its intent to appeal.

The source told The Spirit the move is meant to allow Patterson to explore options and that does not mean he is committed to leaving Ole Miss.

New Rebels coach Matt Luke, who had been an assistant on Freeze's staff, was not named in the NCAA report and thus did not get a show-cause penalty.

Chris Vaughn: Five years, during which "he must not hold any athletically related duties during this time". Former assistant David Saunders' show-cause runs for eight years.

Former head coach Hugh Freeze received a show-cause tag also. That won't be easy considering the looming postseason ban for the 2018 season. No off-campus recruiting activities or hosting any meals for prospects or student-athletes.

Scholarship reductions through 2018-19 (self-imposed).

LSU tried to recruit Patterson while he played high school football at Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport before he transferred to IMG Academy in Florida and ultimately decided on Ole Miss. The organization noted it was the third time in three decades that the athletic department and boosters were accused of breaking the rules.

"While we continue to review the full report, we will vigorously appeal the 2018 postseason ban".

Ole Miss will receive an additional bowl ban for 2018, three years of probation, as well as additional scholarship losses. "The additional postseason ban is excessive and does not take into account the corrective actions that we have made in personnel, structure, policies and processes to address the issues", the school said in a statement.
