While those goods won't be out until January 2018, you won't have to wait to add the rich shade to your makeup stash.

And this morning, the institute announced its much-anticipated color for 2018 as Ultra Violet.

If you think it's just a gimmick, consider this: According to The New York Times, Pantone employs about 10 people to travel to the far reaches of the earth and see what's trending in everything from cosmetics to cars and more so that each December they can declare the "it" color for the upcoming year.

Lest I overstep my bounds, if the final shade on the spectrum is of current interest, may we recommend a flattering hue of lavender as an alternative. Pantone is surely switching it up with its 2018 COTY! "We wanted to pick something that brings hope and an uplifting message".

One of the hottest color trends this year was millennial pink.

Truth! The COTY influences, impacts, and is represented by the design world, as well. Will homeowners and designers go for purple sofas, chairs and accessories?

Pantone features a calming visual of "Ultra Violet", which displays a galaxy-like atmosphere with endless stars, sparkling in the deep purple tones of a limitless sky - That night sky, Pantone says, "is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own".

It's as though Ultra Violet can provide some comfort and control amidst all the chaos!

The company even noted that pop culture has loved this specific shade of purple for decades, sighting musical icons David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, and of course Prince as inspiration. "The use of purple-toned lighting in meditation spaces and other gathering places energizes the communities that gather there and inspire connection". Pantone also notes that "enigmatic purples have also always been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance".
