Sarah Sanders goes off on the media at White House press briefing

Sanders said President Trump should hit back at fake news reports, and she's glad he called out Washington Post reporter Dave Weigel for gleefully tweeting a photo of a half-empty arena to undermine Trump.

CNN later corrected its story to say that someone who was not affiliated with WikiLeaks had emailed Trump Jr.to notify him that WikiLeaks had already published the hacked emails online.

"I would just say Sarah, that journalists make honest mistakes and that doesn't make them fake news", he said.

I can only hope that Sarah Sanders doesn't believe what she said on Monday but rather was simply parroting the oft-expressed views of her boss when it comes to the media's motives.

"I don't have any personnel announcements or comments on that at this time", she said.

"It's not an honest mistake when you are purposely putting out information that you know to be false or when you're taking information that hasn't been validated, that hasn't been offered any credibility and that has been continually denied by a number of people, including people with direct knowledge of an incident", Sanders said. This is something that - I'm speaking about the number of reports that have taken place over the last couple of weeks. All that I want to make clear is that there should be some unequivocal degree of culpability involved in the process.

Sanders referred to recent corrections from CNN and ABC as supposed evidence of reporters "purposefully misleading the American people". Huckabee Sanders responded by making a broad statement about what Trump considers to be biased reporting, insinuating that any accidental misreporting by news outlets - such as the recent error made by Brian Ross of ABC News - is done intentionally and maliciously.

The White House ramped up its campaign against the press Monday, alleging that mistakes by reporters are the result of purposeful attempts to mislead the American public. "I think that shows that the network took it seriously and recognize that it was a problem", she said.

The contentious interaction with the press comes after Trump sent several tweets over the weekend and on Monday rebuking reporting about his TV viewing habits, how big his crowds were during a recent rally in Florida, and the Russian Federation investigation. "Major lies written, then forced to be withdrawn after they are exposed...a stain on America!". "I'm not finished", Sanders said several times after Acosta tried to cut her off (video below). They were caught red handed, just like lonely Brian Ross at ABC News (who should be immediately fired for his "mistake").
