SHIELD owners in China will be able to download and play select Wii and Nintendo GameCube titles, with others coming soon - among them, Super Mario Galaxy.

The NVIDIA Shield sells for around 1,499 RMB, or $227, while each of the Nintendo games costs around 68 RMB or $10. We're not jealous at all. The device will now make its debut in China and will also arrive with support for Nintendo Wii games. Nvidia is teaming up with Nintendo to launch the Shield Android TV box in China with an assortment of games from the Wii and Gamecube. Nintendo is yet to offer its Virtual Console service, which offered a wide range of downloadable games from the company's extensive back catalogue, on the Switch. In 2003, the company partnered with iQue, a home electronics maker that developed a device capable of bypassing the legislation that banned console games.

New Super Mario Bros., Twilight Princess, and PUNCH-OUT! are all available now.

Speaking to Engadget, Nvidia has revealed that Nintendo will release remastered versions of New Super Mario Bros. Wii will be upgraded to run at 1080p mode on the Shield. Inside is a powerful Nvidia Tegra X1 chip that can decode 4K HDR video and run console-quality games. "The chosen Wii and Nintendo GameCube games have been long anticipated by Chinese players", wrote NVIDIA. This has ensured that gamers eager to play a new version of Mario Kart can only do so if they buy a Nintendo machine. It has been created to work with Baidu's DuerOS conversational artificial intelligence (AI) system and entertainment options from IQIYI.

Nintendo has been particularly hard-hit by piracy, which is rampant in China and has dissuaded console manufacturers from launching their products in spite of the huge market potential.
