Tiger still in the woods

For the third time in four days, Tiger Woods showed masterful control of his golf ball en route to a round in the 60s, closing the Hero World Challenge with a four-under 68 Sunday.

"I'm excited", Woods said afterward. "I just ended up in bad spots after good shots".

Breezy conditions made sub-par rounds hard at the Albany course with overnight leader Hoffman one of the few to deliver, surging to a five-stroke lead after a birdie at 18 for a two-under 70 and a 202 total. Overall I'm very pleased. For whatever reason, I find myself really enjoying this comeback. "It's been really nice".

Woods, playing for the first time since February, was in trouble from the opening hole, hitting his tee shot at the par-four first into the sand bordering the fairway.

If that was the highlight of Woods' return to tournament golf after a 10-month layoff, the takeaway was that he appears healthy and ready to compete with the game's elite players in the next year. "At that time I've already played four par-fives and nothing happened".

Woods finally picked up a shot at the 14th, doffing his hat to the crowd in relief, before carding another birdie at the par-three 17th.

Fowler was looking at a seven-stroke deficit when he began his round but seven straight birdies and another at the ninth put him in front at the turn, which he made in eight-under 28.

"You've got to keep fighting, and that's one of things I've always done in my entire career is just keep fighting and try to post the best number I possibly could", Woods added.

But it was overnight leader Charley Hoffman who suffered the most as his five-shot advantage and his hopes of victory disappeared with a round of 72.

Tommy Fleetwood and Jordan Spieth finished in a tie for third place on 12 under.
