BRISTLING South Korea troops regularly conduct military drills on its border with North Korea

"The dictator of North Korea made a decision yesterday that brings us closer to war, not farther from it", she said. However, North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un called the launch "impeccable" and a "breakthrough".

But her call for nations to "cut off all ties with North Korea" was rejected by Moscow, with foreign minister Sergei Lavrov saying Russian Federation saw the proposal "negatively".

During a speech in St. Charles, Mo., on November 29, President Trump referred to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as "Little Rocket Man" and "sick puppy".

She said the United States did not seek conflict but that North Korea's regime would be "utterly destroyed" if war broke out. "And I don't mean 'Big for North Korea.' Only a few countries can produce missiles of this size, and North Korea just joined the club".

On Wednesday, North Korea launched its third and most advanced intercontinental ballistic missile, which experts now believe could reach the mainland United States.

Tal Inbar, the head of the space research center at the Fisher Institute for Air and Space Strategic Studies, observed on Twitter that the reentry vehicle, or the tip of the missile that must return down to earth, was "HUGE".

North Korea's Kim said the test of the Hwasong-15 weapons system had helped his country achieve the goal of becoming a full nuclear power, sparking global condemnation.

But Mike Elleman, a leading missile expert, wrote on 38 North, a website for North Korea analysis, that despite the missile's size it still probably couldn't send a heavy nuclear warhead as far as the US's east coast.

In spite of Trump's rhetoric and warnings that all options, including military ones, are on the table in dealing with North Korea, his administration has stressed it favors a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

"We know they were building to this".

"Anything beyond that is not the priority at this point", she said, responding to a question on whether regime change was on the administration's agenda after Trump's recent tweets and a speech by U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. They got it no matter how badly we wanted to stop them. But China has refused to turn off its pipeline shipping crude to the North Beijing fears that taking tougher actions could cause the regime to collapse, triggering a refugee crisis across its border with the North and eliminating a strategic buffer separating China from the U.S. military in South Korea. While Haley remarked that the "North Korean regime will be utterly destroyed" in such a war, she neglected to mention the damage that South Korea, and possibly the United States, could also face from a North Korean nuclear attack.

Mr Xi said China would like to keep up communications with the USA and all other related parties and "jointly push the nuclear issue toward the direction of peaceful settlement via dialogues and negotiations", according to Xinhua.
