  • The nationalist approach to immigration is in part thanks to Stephen Miller who has made restricting the flow of immigrants and refugees to the U.S. his main priority since joining the Trump team

'It's both sad and telling The New York Times would print the lies of their anonymous "sources" anyway, ' she said.

A report has emerged of how President Donald Trump of the United States insulted Nigerians alongside immigrants from other countries, while commenting on the rationale behind his controversial travel ban.

According to the Times report, Kelly and Miller became frustrated with Tillerson, blaming the secretary of state for the flow of people from overseas.

This was recalled by two officials whose names were not released by the Times because they asked their names remain anonymous, however the newspaper is reporting that the officials "found them so noteworthy that they related them to others at the time".

According to a report by New York Times, Trump made racist statements against Haitians and Africans while in a meeting at the White House.

The explosive and disparaging remarks about immigrants attributed to the president were sourced to a pair of unnamed officials, one who the Times said was present in the meeting, and another who was briefed about the comments by a second attendee.

"Regarding the 40,000 Nigerians with visas, Trump said these people would never "go back to their huts" in Africa after experiencing the wealth of the U.S", according to the same people connected to the meeting.

As the meeting continued, John F. Kelly, then the secretary of homeland security, and Rex W. Tillerson, the secretary of state, tried to interject, explaining that many were short-term travelers making one-time visits.

He also had unkind words for Haitians who had sent 15,000 people. If he was so bad at his job, maybe he should stop issuing visas altogether, Mr. Tillerson fired back.

Mr. Trump has made tightening immigration a key platform of his campaign and presidency.

Learning that 2,500 Afghanis had entered the U.S. since his inauguration day, Trump referred to the country as a terrorist haven.

The White House has vehemently denied that Trump used those terms in the meeting.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House Press Secretary, denied the claims with volition on Saturday.

The month before, when a man who killed eight people in Manhattan was revealed to be originally from Uzbekistan, Trump bemoaned the air of complacency around immigration reform, calling current laws "a joke", the Times reports.
