"On behalf of the National Park Service we are grateful for the annual support from students, leaders, veterans and community members".

For the third year, Chevrolet and dealers from across Maryland is supporting the non-profit.

For months now, you have been inundated with flyers and news articles announcing the acceptance of the Valley Center Cemetery into the national Wreaths Across America program to honor the veterans buried there.

This is carried out through wreath laying ceremonies at all national cemeteries in all 50 states and beyond. The public may participate in the event on December 16, which begins with an opening ceremony in front of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial near the main gates of Arlington Cemetery at 8:15 a. m. Instructions will be provided to those who volunteer to lay and remove wreaths; wreath distribution will begin at 9:15 a. m.

Keeping in mind Wreaths Across America's saying "A person dies twice: once when they take their final breath and later, the last time their name is spoken" the volunteers thank each veteran for their service and say their name aloud as they hang the wreath. "Since then, we usually have a small group of employees and a driver who volunteer time to honor these veterans", Clark said.

Slay said the event is educational for children as well. "We need to be the freedom care-takers", said Wreaths Across America Executive Director Karen Worcester.

Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery is located at 1800 Cabrillo Memorial Dr., San Diego.

The auditorium at Blue Mountain Middle School in Orwigsburg was packed as Wreaths Across America made a stop at the school.

"I decided this would be a lovely place", she said. "Because if it wasn't for the soldiers and those in the military, we wouldn't be able to do what we do every day in America", Rice said.

Following the ceremonies on Saturday, the Ottawa County Wreath Committee is inviting the public to the Catawba Island Fire Station, 4730 E. Cemetery Rd., for cookies, coffee and fellowship, according to a news release from the committee. This is the first year that the cemetery will participate in this national event around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
