President Donald Trump nearly apologized for retweeting inflammatory anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant videos originally shared by a British far-right political group.

"If you're telling me these are terrible people, disgusting racist people, I would certainly apologize if you'd like me to do that", Trump said in an excerpt released by "Good Morning Britain" on Friday. "I thought it was an interesting exchange, I don't think he really wanted to go to the point of apology", said Morgan.

When Morgan quickly pointed out that at least one of the videos was unverified, Trump said, "I didn't do it, I did a retweet". He then added: "I know nothing about them".

'Certainly I wasn't endorsing anybody.

'I guess, again I'm in the United States, so I didn't read as much about it, perhaps it was a big story in Britain, perhaps it was a bit story in the UK. If you're telling me they're disgusting racist people.

Trump was less apologetic about tweeting the content of the unverified videos, saying he was a "big believer in fighting radical Islamic terror", repeating his relentless attacks on Islam and demonization of Muslims.

Jayda Fransen, deputy leader of anti-immigration Britain First, posted the videos which she said showed a group of people who were Muslims beating a teenage boy to death, battering a boy on crutches and destroying a Christian statue. Even Fox News host Laura Ingraham, one of Trump's staunchest defenders, brought them up when interviewing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on the night of November 29.

'When you do those retweets it can cause problems, because you never know who's doing it to start off with'. "I don't know anything about what you're even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists, so, I don't know...."

He did, however, say that Trump was reluctant to apologize, the Daily Mail reports.

Trump's official Twitter account retweeted a series of inflammatory anti-Muslim videos in November 2017. When you do your own tweeting, or you do your own social media, it's fine. "I know nothing about them".

"I don't care" about potential protesters, Trump told Morgan in the morning show interview.

Although his press secretary defended the tweets at the time, the President has told Piers Morgan that he is ready to apologise in an exclusive interview to be aired this weekend. "But I am a tremendous supporter of the United Kingdom".
