Because space in News Feed is limited, showing more posts from friends and family and updates that spark conversation means we'll show less public content, including videos and other posts from publishers or businesses. He declared that he is changing the goal he gives from focusing on helping users find relevant content to helping them have more meaningful social interactions.

"Recently we've gotten feedback from our community that public content - posts from businesses, brands and media - is crowding out the personal moments that lead us to connect more with each other", he said.

"By making these changes, I expect the time people spend on Facebook and some measures of engagement will go down", said Zuckerberg in the post.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants you to remember a time when you curated your list of favourite movies, showed off your new pair of shoes, shared some good news, and didn't see using Facebook as a pseudo-masochistic act of poor impulse control. But it's also possible that these new moves undermine those initiatives, and that Zuckerberg's aim to make users more happy could also make them more misinformed. Why not create a setting to let us see more or fewer animals?

"There is really no silver bullet here to determine what is most meaningful, but we are trying to mine the signals to get the best representation that we can", Hegeman said. Until now, Facebook has tuned the News Feed to favor video in the feed over other types of content.

This news feed ranking update is more about intensifying the content and things people hold dearie.

Mr Zuckerberg outlined a less absolute change in his post that will see commercial content de-prioritised rather than removed from the news feed all together.

The news has left publishers uncertain about the impact it may have on their businesses, especially as many have pivoted to video and have relied on Facebook to rack up those coveted views.

At least one study has shown that Facebook users are influenced by their friends and family members' actions and reactions on the site.

"On the other hand, passively reading articles or watching videos - even if they're entertaining or informative - may not be as good", reveals Zuckerberg.

What does this mean for Pages and public content?

He added that people would be spending less time on Facebook and we feel good about it as that would make them rejoice and enjoy the little time they would spend on using or scrolling Facebook, which would eventually be good for the business. Some news helps start conversations on important issues.

This initiative would result in causing people to spend much less time on the social networking giant. Facebook has also indicated that postings which generate the most engagement or reactions will always get first look in their algorithms.
