The comment surprised some Democrats given that committees rarely defer key witnesses to other panels. But with the committee's Trump Tower interviews wrapped up, Grassley said he would move to release the transcripts "as soon as possible".

The interviews are part of one of several inquiries into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Moscow.

What transcripts could be released?

"So, now it's time to start officially releasing the transcripts of all witness interviews we have done related to that meeting", Grassley said in the statement.

The committee has interviewed Trump Jr. and numerous Russians involved in the meeting.

Veselnitskaya and Goldstone attended the meeting along with Russian-American lobbyist Rinat Akhmetshin, translator Anatoli Samorchornov, and a businessman named Ike Kaveladze.

He said he hopes that the transcripts can be released either through an agreement with Feinstein or through a committee vote.

United States media reported last July that the President's son, Donald Trump Jr., had met during the 2016 presidential campaign with Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya expecting to receive confidential information about his father's political rival Hillary Clinton.

Democrats have used the June 2016 meeting to suggest the president, his son and other members of the campaign team colluded with Russian Federation ahead of the presidential election.

The Trump Tower meeting, which occurred on June 9, 2016, has been a focus of congressional investigators since it was reported on last July.

Critics say Mr Trump's involvement may constitute obstruction of justice.

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and current White House senior adviser Jared Kushner did not testify before the committee.

Dowd released his list of Trump co-operation a day after the president himself said he was looking forward to being questioned by Mueller's team.

"I believe this Committee's interviews of the witnesses surrounding the Trump Tower meeting are complete", Grassley said. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), the committee's ranking member, for scaring away Kushner by releasing the transcript of the Fusion GPS co-founder. In a move that took Grassley and his colleagues by surprise, Feinstein, the top Democrat on the committee, unilaterally released a redacted transcript of Simpson's interview with the Judiciary committee. Simpson and his company were involved in producing a now-famous dossier detailing alleged ties between Trump and the Kremlin. Richard Blumenthal of CT said in a statement, calling on Grassley to subpoena Kushner and Trump Jr.Feinstein said she still wanted a public hearing with Don Jr., though she was deferential to Grassley."Yes, but the chairman is the chairman and that's fine with me", she said when asked about a public hearing.Grassley, however, told reporters Thursday that he did not expect to hold public hearings so long as the closed-door interview transcripts are released as he intends.Grassley's call to release the transcripts comes one day after two of the committee's Democrats, Sens.

Mr Kushner, the president's son-in-law, also attended the Trump Tower meeting.

Strzok was reassigned from Mueller's Russian Federation investigation following the discovery of anti-Trump text messages he and Page, who was also briefly detailed to Mueller's team, had shared.

Inspector General Michael Horowitz said in a letter to Congress that his office "succeeded in using forensic tools" to recover messages from Federal Bureau of Investigation devices, including those swapped by a counterintelligence agent, Peter Strzok, and Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer Lisa Page between December 2016 and May 2017.

In a letter to Republican lawmakers, DoJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz said the five months of messages could be shared with congressional committees.
