Honda Accord, Lincoln Navigator and Volvo XC60 Take top Honors at NAIAS

This is the third win in a row for Honda with the Civic taking vehicle of the Year in 2016 and the Ridgeline winning Truck of the Year in 2017.

Today the highly coveted North American Car, Utility and Truck of the year awards were announced.

Henio Arcangeli Jr., senior vice president for Honda's auto sales division, said the award represents "not resting on past. achievements".

The 2018 Honda Accord is the victor of the auto of the Year.

The awards are "chosen by a panel of more than 60 jurors from print, online, and broadcast media across the United States and Canada", according to the award show website.

About the Honda AccordOver 10 generations and 41 years, American vehicle buyers have made Accord the best-selling auto in America, purchasing more than 13 million Accords.

In the truck category, the Lincoln Navigator fended off a fraternal challenge from its cousin, the Ford Expedition, with the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 performance pickup splitting the cousins and keeping things close, losing to the Lincoln by just a dozen votes, 212 to 200. The judges loved the impact of the Navigator's looks and the effect this has on the rest of Lincoln's lineup. Eligible vehicles must be new or substantially changed. The Volvo XC60 and Honda Civic both took top honors in 2016.

The winners were selected from a group of 29 vehicles, including 11 cars and 15 utilities. Last year's winners were the Chevrolet Bolt EV, Chrysler Pacifica, and Honda Ridgeline.
