Afghanistan's capital Kabul has suffered three deadly attacks in a little over one week. At least 22 people - mostly foreign civilians, including four Americans - were killed.

The Islamic State (IS) militant group claimed responsibility for the January 29 attack through its Amaq news agency.

Explosions and gunfire were heard at a military university in Afghanistan early Monday, as reports emerged that the school was under attack.

"Several explosions were heard, as well as small-arms fire", as the assault was launched at around 5am local time, the BBC reports.

On Saturday, Taliban militants detonated an explosive-laden ambulance in a busy area close to Kabul's infamous Chicken Street, killing 103 people, as confirmed by the Afghan Ministry of Interior (MoI). "This murderous attack renews our resolve and that of our Afghan partners", Trump said in a statement.

Ministry of Defence officials said the militants attackedthe outpost near the well-defended Marshal Fahim militaryacademy just before dawn.

A bombing in Kabul killed at least 95 people and injured 158 others.

The spokesperson said that a gunfight between the remaining terrorist and soldiers is underway.

He was commenting on Kabul's claim that Pakistan-based terrorist groups were responsible for Saturday's bomb attack in the Afghan capital.

"The government can control the situation but the president has to share power with others, he needs unity with other parties so they can fight the Taliban together", Mr Mahmood said.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed credit for the complex attack, the second of its kind targeting the Intercontinental in the last seven years.

The recent attacks have served only to bolster the United States commitment, he said.

According to TOLONews channel the clashes between security forces and insurgents lasted for about five hours after a group of five attackers tried to enter the facility.

"The Taliban's use of an ambulance as a weapon to target civilians represents inhumane disregard for the people of Afghanistan and all those working to bring peace to the country, and is a violation of the most basic global norms", Tillerson said.

The bloodshed has led to widespread criticism among Afghans of the country's national unity government, which the USA helped broker in 2014 after disputed elections.
