Four foreigners, who were kidnapped a few days ago in Nigeria's northwestern Kaduna state, have been rescued in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

All four are safe and in Nigeria's capital, Abuja, with the USA and Canadian embassies, Nigeria's State Commissioner of Police Agyole Abeh told CNN by phone.

This was even as it said two of the Kidnappers have been arrested and now helping the police in its investigation.

"I can not confirm if there have been negotiations or a ransom paid", Aliyu added.

In a separate incident, police in the Delta state said five Nigerian oil workers from local firm Sahara Energy were kidnapped on Thursday.

The four were abducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, while traveling with police escorts from Kaduna city to Abuja. Two policemen were killed and another was wounded.

The foreigners were abducted on Wednesday.

The four North Americans - whose identities have not been disclosed - were on private business in Kaduna when they were snatched on the road from the town of Kafanchan to the capital Abuja.

When asked for comment Saturday, an official at the U.S. Department of State told ABC News, "We are aware of reports of two U.S. citizens kidnapped and released in Nigeria. The safety and protection of USA citizens overseas are among our top priorities", according to a statement by the State Department.

At the time, Global Affairs Canada said it could not release further information about the Canadians due to privacy concerns.
