  • Raiders hire Jon Gruden

The announcement from the team comes an hour after Gruden's final broadcast for Monday Night Football following the Tennessee Titans stunning victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, 22-21.

It had been reported from a number of media outlets that Gruden would return as coach and receive a formal introduction Tuesday during a news conference. The Buccaneers have also reportedly been interested in Gruden, who has worked as an analyst for ESPN since he was sacked by Tampa Bay in January 2009.

Gruden reportedly is set to strike a deal for 10 years and $100 million to be the Raiders' next head coach, ESPN reported Friday.

Gruden could return to coach the Raiders in 2018. St. Louis won just nine games his first two years before breaking through with the Super Bowl title in the 1999 season behind quarterback Kurt Warner. Before that, Gruden spent 10 years as a head coach in the NFL. After a brief hiatus, Brown returned to football as the part owner, coach and general manager of the AFL expansion Cincinnati Bengals, who began play in 1968. It is the longest coaching deal in the history of the league, per a report from ESPN. He led the Buccaneers to the Super Bowl title over Oakland the following season.

Regardless, Gruden is a terrific offensive mind and he has only gotten more knowledgeable since stepping away from coaching.

This would not mark the first time the Raiders brought back a coach for a second stint.

Gruden coached the Raiders between the 1998 and 2001 seasons. Overall, Gruden is 95-81 in 11 seasons.

It has not been a secret as everyone knew Jon Gruden was going to be back with the Silver and Black next season. He came back in 2004 and had a 30-34 record in four seasons, leading Washington to two playoff berths.
