Someone Re-Edited "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" and Removed All the Women

  • Maz Kanata Originally Had A Much Bigger Role In Star Wars The Last Jedi

On one side you have a subset of fans who think Disney is ruining their childhood with its new canon and films, while on the other hand, you have fans who can appreciate these new Star Wars movies for what they are...new Star Wars movies.

Allow me to introduce someone who hated The Last Jedi so much for exactly that reason, he made a decision to do something about it. The film has pulled in 591.5 million dollars at the home box office, while globally the film has grossed whooping 1.26 billion dollars. It's a hundred minutes shorter than the actual movie, the cut is as linear as a bad dream and it focuses entirely on its male characters without any of the character development given to Rey-one of the The Last Jedi's finer elements. For years Star Wars fans have desired to see a film delve deeper into the criminal elements of the galaxy far, far away.

But whereas the producers of those sequels and reboots opted for maximal ease of access, requiring no prior knowledge for each iteration, the new Star Wars films lean especially heavily on references and nostalgia for the originals.

Fortunately for them, a dark lord editor has risen up and erased any sight of icky, cooties-carrying girls from The Last Jedi.

The most telling part of this foolhardy, childish, and deeply misguided endeavor is that what I am dubbing "the James Damore cut" of the longest Star Wars movie to date clocks in at 46 minutes. Based on the reaction of fans, it seems safe to say that many much preferred the original Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

- Lea dies. Kylo kills her. Who is Snoke? Is Kylo Ren still susceptible to the light?

"You will probably enjoy it most when you view it less as a blockbuster movie and more as some kind of episode from some non-existent mediocre Star Wars series", the creator said.

The Last Jedi's failure in China makes sense, and it makes me wonder what, if anything, studios will do to avoid this in the future. Now however the theory is that we might be forced to lose one of the most iconic ships in the entire franchise, the Millennium Falcon. We're living in an age of reboots and franchises that lean heavily on what came before. There are some drawbacks to spoiling the mystery of his origins, and this film arguably has more to lose than gain.

It's an argument for investing in brand new properties with the potential to grow into worldwide phenomena, no prior histories attached.
