Carl Higbie, the chief of external affairs for the Corporation for National and Community Service, Thursday after CNN unearthed a litany of offensive and discriminatory remarks he'd made on various radio segments.
After his departure from CNCS, Samantha Jo Warfield, a spokesperson from the organization issued a statement that said: "Effective immediately, CarlHigbiehas resigned as Chief of External Affairs at CNCS".
In his former role at CNCS, Higbie was responsible for the public image and messaging of the federal department that oversees volunteer services like AmeriCorps and Senior Corps.
Higbie also made a number of highly inflammatory comments about gay people and Muslims.
The resignation came after CNN's KFile revealed years of racist, sexist, anti-Muslim, and anti-LGBT comments made on radio programs.
"Only one (black) person was actually cordial to me", Higbie said in a 2013 radio appearance where he discussed giving away free firewood.
On another occasion he said black people had "lax" morals and black women thought "breeding [was] a form of government employment".
Mr. Higbie, a former Navy SEAL who served two tours in Iraq, also said that those getting government assistance "at any given time during any election cycle" should "not get to vote at the subsequent election".
